Requests for prescriptions OUTSIDE OF COVID OUTBREAK must be in writing to help avoid mistakes.
For safety reasons, receptionists can not take requests verbally over the phone or at the reception desk.
Register for patient access to submit your prescription request on-line.
Please remember to allow enough time, as it will take 48 hours to process a prescription and a further 24 hours for the Pharmacy to process.
Requests received by 11.00 am one day will be ready for collection from health centre after 4.00 pm in two working days. (Saturday and Sunday are not counted as working days).
The Thornbury Chemists will collect prescriptions from the Health Centre so that you can pick up your medication directly from the chemist of your choice.
Please allow the Pharmacists a further 24 hours to prepare your medicines safely.
When picking up your medication from the Chemist please check it is correct before leaving the premises.
Allow 3 working days for your repeat prescription. Receptionists process approximately 240 prescriptions daily and these need to be reviewed by a clinician and signed. We undertake to process your request within 2 days and the third day is then required by the pharmacist to process the prescription(s) and prepare the medication ready for dispensing.
We will not accept verbal requests for prescriptions either on the telephone or at reception. This has in the past often resulted in confusion and we do not feel this practice to be safe. A receptionist refusing to a take a prescription request at reception or on the telephone is not being difficult but following practice policy.
NHS Guidelines for repeat prescription limits are as follows:
- Patients aged 75 years and above – One month supply
- Patients under 75 years – Two months supply
- Travelling abroad – Three months supply of medication can be prescribed by your GP. You will need to make arrangements for further medication within the country you are travelling to.
